Good Time Management
As you know, all of us have only 24 hours a day and why some people are just able to squeeze out more time not only for themselves but for others as well. I am sure you have friends who seemingly able to conjure more hours out of their daily schedules. They are successful in their careers and you know their work hours are long but still find the time to meet you up for drinks and meals regularly. Something is going around and yet you can’t really figure out what is it.
Actually, it boils down to three words, “Good Time Management”. When you are able to manage your time well, you can do more per day without compromising your social life. Successful people have to master the art of good time management before they can succeed and if you want to succeed in life, you have to master the art of good time management.
For me, I have yet to master this art but from what I have been practicing so far, I have become far more effective in my time management and results are showing. There are no secrets to good time management. Basically you have to prioritize your life and work and put everything in order of importance and priority. I plan weekly and daily in advance so that I have an idea of what I am suppose to do for the whole week and the day. I can finish all the tasks at hand as soon as possible without comprising my quality of the work.
One thing to take note is that you need to learn how to do your job more efficiently to avoid spending more time on doing the same task. Imagine a task that you normally need one hour to finish but instead you find a way to cut down the time by 15 min and this 15 min can be put to good use for another task and you do that for the other task and so on. Imagine how much time you can save. If you are working in a job that do the same thing over and over again, by doing your work more efficiently leaves you with more time for other important things such as building rapport with your boss, etc.
Same thing applies if always doing OT but find that you have no time after work to go for classes or other upgrading courses, by doing things more efficiently leaves you with more time to concentrate on the important things in your life.
There is one book that I recommend for managing your time properly and that is Stephen Covey’s “The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People”. This is highly recommended for anyone who wishes to become more effective and efficient in their daily lives and dealings. This year, make it a point to manage your time well and be more efficient in your work.
