Key Elements In Selecting a Niche
Probably the most difficult part of making money online is to decide on a niche to go into. While your decision may be base purely on commercial reasons, 9 out of 10 times this ideology will fail.
Oftentimes, online newbies will find themselves losing interest in a niche some months down the road. Most of them probably lose interest due to lack of money coming in, lack of interest or simply distractions from other money making opportunities.
I find it a pity because they failed to identify and understand certain key elements when deciding on a niche. Most of them go into a niche thinking they can make easy money. I don’t blame them as there’s too much hype on online money making opportunities. Many online newbies are often lured by the promise of easy and huge money that can be made.
Certainly, there are faster and easier ways to make huge sums of money online, but these internet gurus have all gone through the hard ways initially, learning the ropes, building relationships and building solid foundations for their online success.
I’m not discouraging you from exploring online money making opportunities. But far from it, I enthusiastically encourage you to join me and explore these online money making opportunities.
If not you won’t be seeing this blog around in the first place.
The potential for creating wealth online has never been greater and the internet is more vibrant than yesteryears after the dotcom burst. If you understand something about business, economy and technology at large, you’ll understand how the internet has change and shape the world. The internet has actually open up vast amount of opportunities for common people to achieve the dreams that they have always crave for.
So with this in mind, the ball is in your court to decide on your own success.
Ok! Now take a look at some of the key elements involve in selecting a niche:
Identify your strength and weakness
It’s important to understand yourself and what sort of roles you can play and what are your limitations. For example, if you are good in graphics design and want to set up a site to sell your graphic design services but know nuts about marketing. Either you find someone good in marketing to partner with or you can outsource the marketing stuff to people. I do not advocate outsourcing the marketing part as this is an area that is extremely important in any business, be it a conventional or online business. If you are weak in marketing, you can outsource to people initially, but you must really master it within the shortest possible time. The best way out is to find a business partner that you can trust to do the marketing stuff while you concentrate more on the creative side of the business, doing what you like best!
Identify your passion
Passion drives a person to put in more effort and time into the business. For example a dog lover will be in a better position to start a dog website promoting affiliate products as compare to a non dog lover. Passion is the lasting fuel to drive you through the harsh and unpredictable period when everything else seems so bleak.
Mentally ready and prepare to unleash
Are you prepared to commit your time, effort and everything in order to achieve success? Many newbies are not prepared for the initial amount of time and effort spent learning the ropes before they can earn money on a consistent level. They think that the money will come in after a couple of months and when they really start doing it, they discovered there are so many things to learn, understand and apply. That’s why you must have this siege mentality of “I must succeed at all cost and do whatever it takes to achieve what I want”! Do you understand this part?
Research the market
Another important element to take note of, even though you may have the passion and interest in a particular niche is that you need to research the market first. Find out what people are looking for and think of how you can make a profit by helping these people with their problems. A good way to do research is to go to a few big forums in the niche and find out what problems or issues are these people facing.
Prepare a business plan
Any business without proper planning is doom to fail on the onset. You need to plan carefully ahead and lay out the exact steps on how you are going to achieve the goals that you have set for yourself. Stick to the plan and set goals that are realistic and achievable. Go step by step. If you are a newbie, set yourself a goal of making $100 the first month, and then increase it to $300 the next month and so on. In a way, by setting realistic and achievable goals, you actually prevent yourself from feeling downcast and discourage. Start small but think big! Once you learn how to crawl, the next step is to learn how to walk and then move on to running and finally you fly!
Remember to have fun while making money!
Now this is some advice that my mentor impart to me. Learn to have fun while making money and you get to enjoy the process even more. Remember making money online is a journey not a destination, you have to have fun and maintain a great sense of humor, if not why work so hard!
So what do you think? If you have any suggestion, feel free to add in.
