Content Development For Beginners

Developing content for your website is one of the most time consuming and toughest tasks involved, especially when you are not a prolific writer. However, it can be easy if you have a system in place to develop content. As you can see, the process of developing content can be easily broken down into 5 simple steps and these 5 steps form the basics of developing content for your website.
• Research and gathering information
• Organizing your content
• Writing
• Editing
• Publishing
Research and gathering information for developing content is probably the easiest of the lot, besides publishing. You will probably be able to find everything that has ever been written or published on the internet. Also, you can check out competing websites and take a look at what they have written for a particular topic. From there, you can gather and extract all the important points to include and rewrite in your own style. You can also to go forums in your niche to do research and find materials to write for your website.
After you have done your research and gathering of information, it is time to organize the materials that you have. There are many ways to organize the information. One way is to organize the points in order of importance. Organizing the information that you have is very important to how efficient you can write and the quality of the content that you produce.
After organizing, it is time for you to sit down and write your content. When you are finished with your content, it is not done yet, you have to view and read it a couple of times to make sure at the very minimum you do not have any grammatical or spelling errors. This is part of the editing process which you will fine tune and weed out any errors. When you have done with the editing, you can then publish the content to your website.
Now, for those of you who are not keen on developing content themselves and you have some resources to spare, you can choose to either outsource your content development to others or purchase PLR contents for use on your websites. Just bear in mind that PLR content will probably be found on tens if not hundreds and thousands of similar websites on the internet. Outsourcing is probably the way to go if you have resources; otherwise PLR content is also a good choice for webmasters who hate the idea of developing content themselves.

Once you got your domain name and web hosting sorted out, it is time to decide on the platform to build your website on. It is a very important decision to make as it can be a source of frustration and waste of time and effort if you find that the platform you are using falls short in many areas down the road.
Which platform to use depends a lot on the type of website that you are going to set up?
If you are looking to create one page landing sites or multi-pages mini sites, you can use Dreamweaver or FrontPage to design and create HTML web pages for your websites. For blogs, you can go for popular blogging platforms such B2Evolution, Expression Engine, Movable Type, Text Pattern and WordPress. I highly recommend using WordPress if you are going to start a blog.
For a content heavy site, you can use either Drupal or Joomla to do so. Drupla and Joomla will be good for creating e-commerce sites, membership sites or content heavy sites which need a good CMS (Content Management System). When I first started out online, I used Joomla to create most of my sites. One thing I like about Joomla is the vast number of free templates and plugins available just like WordPress.
For forums, you have a choice of forum platforms such as vBulletin, Invision Power Board, phpBB and SMF. The latter two are free whereas vBulletin and Invision Pwer Board are paid platforms. I have had experiences with vBulletin, phpBB and SMF and I can highly recommend using them. As for Invision Power Board, although I do not have any experience using it, is highly recommended by a lot of webmasters. If you are looking to build a forum site, you can give these few forum platforms some serious consideration.
Personally for me, I used WordPress for all my blogs, Joomla for content heavy sites and vBulletin and SMF for my forums. In recent months, I start to convert existing sites to the WordPress platform. As WordPress is becoming more and more powerful and flexible to use for all types of sites, I find it the perfect platform to use on all my sites.
I have compile a list of recommended software platform below that you can use for your sites.
Blogs
• B2Evolution
• Expression Engine
• Movable Type
• Text Pattern
• WordPress
Content Heavy / Ecommerce / Membership Sites
• Drupal
• Joomla
• Wordpress
Forum
• Invision Power Board
• phpBB
• SMF
• vBulletin

Registering a domain name is a very simple and straight forward process. I do understand as a newbie, everything online seems so very daunting at first. Believe me, I have been through that stage and I can tell you it is not as daunting s it looks to be. Now, registering for a domain for me is as simple as making purchases in my local supermarket just that the products in this case are different.
If you are not used to making purchases online, you may not feel comfortable registering for your first ever domain name. You may wonder whether it is safe to buy or pay for anything online but I can assure you that purchasing anything online is as safe as it can be. Just follow these steps and you will be getting your first ever domain in no time.
In order to purchase anything online, you can either use a credit card or PayPal account to fund your purchases. If you do not have a PayPal account yet, please sign up for one. A PayPal account is needed to send and receive payments online and you will need one for making money online. Once you have your PayPal account set up or your credit card information ready, you can go to the following domain registrars to register for a domain name.
• Dotster
• GoDaddy
• Register
Registering for a domain is very simple and straightforward. Just follow the instructions given and you will be on your way to your first ever domain. I have been using Godaddy as my main domain registrar ever since I started making money online. You can choose to register your domains with other domain registrars but GoDaddy is definitely my preferred choice for registering domains.

As a newbie, it is very easy to get overwhelm by the sheer number of ways to make money online. Each money making model or method seems to be better and more promising than the next. The situation is not help by some unscrupulous marketers who take advantage of newbies’ naivety and greed and come up with products, services and systems that promised the sky but deliver precisely little.
As a result, you will find a lot of newbies flirting from opportunities to opportunities in the hope of finding the one which can make them millions but most will end up disappointed and some end up giving up on making money online which is a real pity. That is why it is important for you if you are new online to focus on one money making model at a time. When you have master a particular money making model, you can then move on to other opportunities.
Don’t ever fall into the so called newbie trap of moving from opportunities to opportunities. It is fine to explore and feel your way around the online world initially. However, once you decide you are ready to make money online, focus all your time and efforts on a particular money making mode. Trust me, you will be saving yourself a lot of heartaches and headaches.
Essential Services

Besides the software and tools which I have mentioned in my previous posts, there are a number of services which will greatly enhance your online business and bring you greater profitability. You can subscribe to these services when you are ready to move forward to the next level of your online business.
While most of these services are not a necessity for a beginner, web hosting is a must for those of you who are really serious about making money online. If you are short of funds in the beginning, make it your priority to get your own hosting once you have the funds for it.
Here’s a list of services which you will definitely find useful.
Autoresponders
If you want to build your own list, an autoresponder is a must. There are a number of free autorepsonder software and scripts around which you can probably try out in the beginning. One word of caution though, most of these software and scripts are very problematic. A paid autoresponder service is a must for those who are serious about building their list. You can check out my reviews on Aweber, GetResponse and iContact autorepsonder services.
Premium Templates & Themes Services
To stand out from the crowd, you need to give your website a high quality theme or template. Although there are many free high quality themes and templates available, they are already used by a large number of websites. It will be hard for visitors to differentiate your website from the hundreds if not thousands of websites out there using the same themes or templates. Premium themes and templates offer you the chance to get a high quality template or theme for a fraction of the cost involve in hiring a web designer. However, one setback is that these premium themes and templates are not restricted to you only. In other words, other people can buy them and use them on their websites too.
Web Design Services
If you can afford to engage a web designer to design and code your website for you, then by all means go ahead. Web design services do not come cheap and a simple website makeover can set you back at least few hundreds. Otherwise, going for premium themes and templates are the next best choice.
Web Hosting Services
As mentioned, you should get your own web hosting as soon as you can afford it. I have previous written a post on “Choosing A Suitable Web Host” and you can refer to that post when it is time to get your own hosting. Alternatively, you can check out my “Web Hosting Reviews” section for a list of suitable web hosts.
Outsourcing Services
Outsourcing is the key to growing and expanding your online business and generating more profits. Outsourcing will free up more time for you to focus your efforts into other more urgent and important parts of your business like marketing, etc. Stuff that you can outsource includes, web design, programming, content creation, graphic design and more. If you need to outsource, you can look for freelancers at Elance, Rentacoder and Scriptlance.
Keyword & Market Research Services
When it comes to keyword and market research, there are many free and paid keyword and market research services around. However, Wordtracker is probably the best of the lot offering both free and paid version of their keyword and market research service. For newbies, the free trial version is good enough to begin with.
